Institutional mandate |
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics is mandated to collect, compile, analyze, publish and disseminate official statistics for public use, and the co-ordination of the national statistical system, under Statistics Act 2006 |
Rationale |
This indicator aims to measure access to vaccines at the national and sub-national level. Immunization is a key component of primary health care and is critical to the prevention and control of infectious disease outbreaks. Universal immunization of children against common vaccine-preventable diseases is crucial in reducing infant and child morbidity and mortality. |
Comment and limitations |
The survey data used to provide this indicator is conducted after every 5-year period. Attempts to generate the indicator using the administrative data from the DHIS has been hampered by variations in the number of children immunized by county against the expected number children in the population. |
Method of computation |
The methodology uses data reported from household surveys with an immunization component. |
Methods and guidance available to countries for the compilation of the data at the national level |
