Definition: The share of all trade in wildlife detected as being illegal Concepts: “All trade in wildlife” is the sum of the values of legal and illegal trade “Legal trade” is the sum of the value of all shipments made in compliance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), using valid CITES permits and certificates. “Illegal trade” is the sum of the value of all CITES/listed specimens seized. |

Rationale |
The data is collected to inform decision making and policy formulation such as Wildlife Conservation and Management Act (2013) that governs wildlife conservation and management in Kenya. This law is enforced primarily by the Kenya Wildlife Service with support from the police and other government agencies |
Comment and limitations |
The data captures Stocks of intercepted wildlife products – Proxy of Elephants Ivory and Rhino horns only. Other products are not currently captured |
